Our Story

Ian is the Founder of MB Advisory. Throughout his career Ian has been involved in various management roles, mainly in the private sector.

MB Advisory is a boutique advisory firm based in Malta, with a core focus on digital marketing, digital business transformation, management consulting, and business advisory services, mainly providing its services to startups, micro, small, and medium-sized businesses. With our guidance and expertise, we help companies succeed and resolve challenges whilst taking their business to the next level.

Ian spent over a decade at an international mobile telecommunications company, where he held various positions within the commercial department. Starting as a Retail Representative, he rapidly progressed through the ranks to become a Senior Corporate Sales Executive, Customer Service Manager, and eventually Retail Operations Manager. Ian also saw the industry change from a monopoly environment to a competitive market. 

In his various managerial roles, Ian always lead teams of 30 – 40 representatives and team leads. He also spearheaded various strategic initiatives such as the retail transformation from a mainly customer care-focused approach to a sales-focused operation, significantly increasing year-on-year sales turnover. Ian was also responsible for the 24/7 customer operations team where he implemented measures to optimize efficiency and reduce costs, whilst leading several projects and setting up of an outsourced outbound team mainly focused for acquisition, retention and upselling. 

After leaving the telecom industry, Ian co-founded a security and automation company where he was a 50% shareholder and director. The company is involved (as it is still in business) in the importation, selling and installation of Extra Low Voltage systems, such as CCTV systems, intruder alarms, data networks and video intercom systems. 

As Shareholder and Director, Ian was responsible for shaping the company’s overall strategic direction, sales, marketing and operations. Through strategic planning, effective marketing, and strong sales execution, Ian successfully drove business expansion and maximized revenue generation opportunities. He also developed and implemented robust financial management practices, ensuring the company’s capital, operational, and cash flow budgets were effectively managed to support sustainable growth.

After 10 years Ian sold his shareholding in the company and exited the business to setup MB Advisory.

Ian is also a Board Member of Beating Hearts Malta, an independent non-profit organization established primarily to support the needs of parents having children born with Congenital Heart Disease (CHD).

Ian Mercieca Bons holds an undergraduate Diploma in Management Studies from the University of Malta and a Masters degree in Business Administration (MBA) with a specialization in e-commerce from the University of Leicester, UK. He is fluent in Maltese and English and has a basic knowledge of Italian. 

Ian is also a member of the Chartered Management Institute in the UK and the Digital Marketing institute in Ireland.
